About the Program

The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Instructional Technology at Towson University began offering courses in the Fall of 2001. This program is one of the four doctoral programs at Towson University. The Instructional Technology Doctoral Program is housed within the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) accredited College of Education in the Department of Educational Technology and Literacy (EDTL). Our program is intended for students who seek advanced degrees in order to strengthen their skills and knowledge base in technology and digital learning. Graduates serve as leaders in higher education, business and PreK-12 public schools, as well as in online learning and professional development.  The program focuses on the development of pedagogical expertise and understanding about how to integrate digital learning tools to meet the present and future needs of instruction across the educational spectrum.

    Students have been successful over the past seven years in completing coursework and passing comprehensive exam processes. Students have also been successful in conducting, writing and defending effective dissertation research that has been well received in the field; 90% of dissertations have been successfully published in refereed journals.

    Some of our alumni hold noteworthy positions, such as: Dean of Mathematics, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor, Clinical Assistant Professor, Director of Professional Development, Director of Multimedia, Director of Instructional Technology, Director of Online Training, Instructional Designer, School Principal and Classroom Teacher.
